Description
This was a project I did to keep busy and to not creatively or mentally burn out.
I have a colleague who became a stay-at-home dad years ago and began making pictures through his car window while waiting to pick up his kids from school—and eventually, specifically when it rained. He called them blurry rain photos, and he said they kept him creatively sane.
The birds were very much this project for me. When I wasn't getting work post-COVID and was living in McAllen as a stay-at-home dad, I started photographing the grackles and doves gathered on the power lines above the H-E-B grocery store parking lot.
Arranged across the wires against the South Texas sky, they became their own kind of musical notation. It was the act of making the images that saved me. Sheet Music is that body of work, finally made available as a limited edition print collection.
