Description
This was a project I did to keep busy and to not creatively or mentally burn out.
I have a colleague who became a stay-at-home dad years ago and began making pictures through his car window while waiting to pick up his kids from school—and eventually, specifically when it rained. He called them blurry rain photos, and he said they kept him creatively sane.
The birds were very much this project for me. When I wasn't getting work post-COVID, and living in McAllen with no friends and not much work, I would go grocery shopping every night to make dinner while my wife was working. I would shoot these while parked in the grocery store parking lot. Stills, video, all of it. It kept me sane, made me feel like I was still an artist. There are hundreds of photos I haven't even looked at. I was losing myself, and this work—which I never really showed—saved me. It was the act of making the images that saved me.
Sheet Music is that body of work, finally made available as a limited edition print collection.
